Original Embedded SQL Server 2016 Standard OPK Sql Svr Std Ed Runtime 2016 Emb
SQL Server 2016 includes more features than ever before, but it's hard to find the differences between SQL Server versions.
The main difference is the licensing model, which limits how SQL Server is used on the servers it is installed on. Both SQL Server Web and Standard versions provide most of the SQL Server features. There are some differences between mirroring (Web can only be a witness), publishing (Web can only subscribe) and performance (Web does not come with SQL Profiler).
Starting with SQL Server 2016 Service Pack 1 released today, the Standard Edition now has more Enterprise Edition features. The following is a list of Microsoft announcement posts:
Data Warehouse Features - Partition, Compression, CDC, Database Snahot
Some security features - always encrypted, row-level security and dynamic data masking

Update the version comparison page (updated on November 16th - I heard that this grid is not quite right) shows that these things are still not in the standard version:
Full Always On Availability Group (multiple databases, readable secondary database)
Master data service, DQS
Serious security features - TDE, auditing
Serious BI - mobile reporting, fuzzy lookup, advanced multidimensional models and tabular models, parallelism in R, stretched database
Why are they so generous? This is simple: they need to push the adoption of SQL Server 2016. Recently, Standard Edition users did not have a large upgrade reason.
Now they have done it. If you are using a pre-2016 version, it's time to start a 2016 upgrade discussion with management. Go, Tiger, see a full list of new and improved features.
1 Enterprise Edition license based on Server + Client Access License (CAL) (not applicable to new protocols) is limited to a maximum of 20 cores per SQL Server instance. There is no limit to the Core-based server authorization model. For more information, see Calculating Capacity Limits for SQL Server Versions.
2 applies to SQL Server 2016 SP1.
