Microsoft supports replication in the Hyper-V world, but so far it has been limited to asynchronous replication of virtual hard disks. As Windows Server 2016 changes, you can now copy the entire volume at the block level. In addition, you can choose between synchronous and asynchronous replication.

This feature, called a storage copy, is primarily for disaster recovery scenarios and requires a "hot" backup for fast failover in the event of a major disaster. Support for server-to-server and cluster-to-cluster replication.

Storage space directly
Both Storage 8 and Windows Server 2012 come with Storage Spaces, which provide similar functionality to RAID but in software. Windows Server 2012 R2 adds the ability to build high availability storage clusters based on the same storage space technology and Microsoft clusters. An important requirement of this high availability cluster is that the participating nodes have access to all storage through an external JBOD array. The JBOD array must also contain a SAS drive to support its multiple initiators.

In addition to the new features, the installation method has been modified to install the server core version of the operating system by default. Introduced in Windows Server 2008, Core refers to the hardening of the operating system that minimizes the server attack surface by removing the GUI and any unnecessary optional installations.
This is an optional installation method in previous Windows Server iterations and is now the default option in Windows Server 2016. During the initial installation process, a full installation or "Desktop Experience" version is still available as an option for users who need additional resources (Figure B).
